DHL recently hosted a special Partners in Trade event on the importance of the African trade lanes to customers in the UAE, as part of its continued efforts to facilitate and capitalise on regional trade lane relationships and partnerships.
The event, which took place at The Address Downtown, was hosted by Frank-Uwe Ungerer, Country Manager for DHL Express in the UAE and Charles Brewer, Managing Director for DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa, with unique insights into each market.
The event brought together more than 60 high profile DHL customers from the UAE’s business community with an interest in trade in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as Mr. Sudhir Mannie, Economic Consul for South Africa, providing a unique opportunity to talk openly about the challenges faced when shipping to Sub-Saharan Africa, where DHL has been operating for 34 years.
Bilateral trade between Africa with the UAE is of particular significance to businesses on both sides of the trade lane. For example, the UAE is currently the 6th highest supplier of oil to South Africa, while South Africa is the UAE’s 13th most important market for non-oil exports, including machinery and equipment, chemicals, and food products.
Frank-Uwe Ungerer, Country Manager for DHL Express in the UAE, said: “As the International specialists, we are always striving to offer our customers the very best in service excellence and superior logistics solutions that meet their ever changing business needs.
Africa is a growing market with a lot of potential in the future and the UAE is considered a trading hub for Africa. We acknowledge this today and that is why we are arranging this event to guide our customers through the challenges shipping through trade lanes, such as Nigeria and South Africa to name a few. This event, the third in our Partners in Trade series, is an example of how we utilise our on-the-ground experience, together with partnerships with the authorities, to navigate the processes in place to help our customers get their goods to market as quickly as possible.”
DHL has been a pioneer in the Middle East logistics industry over the last 30 years through its innovation, service excellence and commitment to providing customers with superior logistics solutions.
