Members of the European Parliament’s Development Committee (MEPs) are set to attend the thirteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XIII). The event will take place at Qatar’s National Convention Centre from 21st to 26th April. Bringing together delegates from its 194 nations, UNCTAD XIII is themed Development-centered globalisation: Towards inclusive and sustainable growth and development.

The MEP delegation to UNCTAD XIII will include Franziska Keller, Germany, Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance; Enrique Guerrero Salom, Spain, Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats; Iva Zanicchi, Italy, Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats), and Norbert Neuser, Germany, Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

Members of the European Parliament’s Development Committee have requested for a special meeting with UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi during the course of the Conference in Doha.

Based in Brussels, the European Parliament’s Development Committee is responsible for the promotion, implementation and monitoring of the development and cooperation policy of the Union. This includes political dialogue with developing countries, bilaterally and in relevant international organisations and inter-parliamentary fora; aid to and cooperation agreements with developing countries, and promotion of democratic values, good governance and human rights in developing countries.
